🎓 PhD Recruitment (2025/2026 Intake)

We are seeking motivated and talented students with strong academic backgrounds and a passion for research on healthy cities, spatial data science, and environment-behavior relationships to join our dynamic team at CityU.

Multiple funding schemes are available for outstanding applicants:

(1) CityUHK Presidential Research Award (CPRA) 🥇 (New in 2025)

Bachelor’s degree from Peking University, Tsinghua University, or Top 10 universities worldwide (QS or THE).
GPA: ≥ 85/100
4-year PhD + 3-year postdoc (eligible for Hong Kong Permanent Residency upon completion)
Annual stipend: HKD 340,000+
Fast-track admission (can join CityU in January 2026 for those graduated)

(2) Top Universities Studentship Scheme (TUSS) 🏆 (New in 2025)

Bachelor’s degree from C9, UCAS, or Top 20 universities worldwide (QS or THE)
GPA: ≥ 85/100
Annual stipend: HKD 240,000

Fast-track admission (can join CityU in January 2026 for those graduated)

(3) Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) ✨

Bachelor’s degree from 985 universities or equivalent, GPA ≥ 85/100
At least one first-author SCI paper in the top 10% journal in the field
Annual stipend: HKD 340,000
Application deadline: Early December 2025 (join CityU in September 2026)

(4) Main Round Admission

Bachelor’s degree from 985/211 universities or equivalent, GPA ≥ 85/100
At least one first-author SCI paper in a top 10% journal
Annual stipend: HKD 240,000

Application deadline: Early December 2025 (join CityU in September 2026)

Desirable Qualification:

Preference will be given to the applicants with strong skills and research experience in GIS, statistics, computer programming (python, R, etc.), machine learning, streetscape image processing, geospatial big data analytics, spatiotemporal modelling, environment-behavior studies, longitudinal and/or cross-sectional studies.

Our team also welcomes ideas from interdisciplinary topics related to urban studies, as well as research exploring the connections between environment, behavior, and health. We also values collaborations worldwide.
